WOW has it ever been a while since I’ve been on here? I took a little bit of a break from blogging to focus on Heading North Company… that’s a story for another time and to just enjoy what’s left of summer. I CAN’T believe that we are more than halfway through August… where has summer gone? Does anyone else feel like life is fast forward right now?
Anyways on to the good stuff. Today I sharing tips and tricks to keep your face and skin feeling healthy while wearing a face mask. I'm just going to say what everyone is thinking: wearing a mask SUCKS. Ever since it has become mandatory to wear face-covering in public areas and/or when maintaining 6ft distance is not possible my skin has been struggling. I will admit this is the worst that my skin has been in a long time and I know this is mainly because it takes time to get used to it but also because I have not been taking care of it properly.
When researching this topic I found that breakouts, in particular, have become so common that mask acne has been dubbed “maskne.” And well – since we can’t ditch the mask, here are some ways to prevent and/treat maskne.
Wash your face. Dirt and oil can build-up and get trapped under your mask causing you to break out.
Wash your mask. Treat your reusable mask like a 1-time-use one. Keep a rotation of masks on hand... I recommend having 4-6 reusable face masks.
Skip the makeup. Easier said than done. This has been extremely difficult for me.
Find a material that works for you. There are countless options for masks out there. Some materials include cotton-blends, flannel, cloth, and silk (highly recommended)
Stay away from surgical masks. If you can't make sure you are only using them once as they are not meant to be reused.
Let your face breathe. Make it a goal every hour to take your mask off for a couple of minutes.
Hydrate yourself. Drinking more water will hydrate your skin cells, and reduce the build-up of toxins.
Change up your skin routine. Here are some products that have been recommended to me.
And well there you have it. Thank you to my Instagram followers for sharing all there recommendations and ways to prevent breakouts from wearing a mask all the time. I hope this helps.
