Approaching week six of this uncertain time, I can’t help but think about how much I’m grateful for, and the things I take for granted. Yes, I know this will be different for everyone but myself; may I never again take for granted traveling and exploring the world. Ask yourself this… “how often do I pause to appreciate what I have in life?” It’s kind of ironic how we humans work, isn’t it? We always want what we can’t have. Malala Yousafzai, an incredible activist once said: “if you go anywhere, even paradise, you will miss your home.” And it’s true. I remember sitting on the beach in Vietnam and at that exact moment, all I could think about was wanting to be home. Now. Fast forward to one year later, I’m sitting at work and all I want is to be sitting on that beach in Vietnam. Oh, how, times have changed. I took my last trip almost 4 months ago. And let me tell you… for me, this feels like an eternity ago. Living vicariously through my camera roll and reminiscing on past adventures – and no official date as to when we will be able to travel again... I can’t help but miss the nomadic lifestyle.
Here are the things I miss the most about traveling:
Meeting People Travel creates opportunities to meet people from all over the world. Meeting people is truly one of the best things and my most favourite things about traveling. The Food No matter how hard I try to recreate something I've eaten while traveling (except for the bugs) it never turns out quite the same. From night markets to airports - eating in different parts of the world is an adventure in its self. The Freedom Seriously. When traveling the world is your oyster. You are in charge of what you do, where you go, how you get there. The Thrill of Exploring I miss the thrill that traveling gives me. Call me crazy. But I LOVE the thrill of running through the airport to catch a flight, not having accommodations booked for my next night's sleep, or hopping on the back of a scooter to get through Bali. I miss the thrill and the anticipation leading up to my next destination or adventure. The Excitement There is no better feeling than the excitement of waking up in a new place! The excitement you get when you first arrive at a new destination is overwhelming and physically powerful... you almost feel like a kid on Christmas morning.
It's hard to put into words how much I love this planet and how much I miss exploring it. From the ocean to the mountains, to the jungle to where ever you may be - Happy Earth Day, until we meet again.
