Travelling soon? Then you’ve come to the right place!
Whether you are on a 2-hour flight or a 14-hour flight, the worst thing when flying is being unprepared in the air. As an avid traveller, I like to think that I have “perfected” the art of packing… if that’s even possible? Today I am going to share all of my favourite, must-have items in my carry-on bag.
Before starting, I want to point out that this is my first blog post, so bear with me….
Let’s begin with the most important part of packing your carry-on… the bag! Everyone has their own personal preference when it comes to selecting a bag for air travel. For me, it’s the Long Champ Le Pliage Tote. This airplane friendly tote is the perfect size for flying. It’s small enough to fit under the seat and large enough to comfortably hold all of your carry-on items. I absolutely love this bag; the quality is amazing! I have brought it with me on every trip for the last three years and it’s still in perfect condition. Although the Long Champ tote is great, it is an investment. For those looking for a more affordable option, you can head over to Amazon and check out this travel bag. This bag will also work great as a carry-on. I personally like this one because it has a trolley sleeve which allows the bag to sit perfectly on your rolling luggage. It also has several pockets to ensure every item has a place.
OK, now onto the good part… what to pack! I’ll start off by saying every airport has different rules when it comes to bringing liquids on the plane. When I am travelling for business or a weekend away, I don’t usually check a bag. Therefore, I have to pack my makeup and toiletries in my carry-on. I know, from first-hand experience, how stressful this can be. Is my shampoo bottle too big? Are they going to confiscate my toothpaste? We’ve all been there and it sucks! Through trial and error, I have learned the best solution is a clear toiletry bag. Fancy right? It really does work though. Anything to avoid airport security from rummaging through your personal items. I also recommend picking up some travel size bottles for hair products. After all, no one likes using hotel shampoo! As I stated before, every airport is different. If you’re unfamiliar with the rules regarding liquids in your carry-on, call your airline or check out the airport’s website for more information. Anything to avoid getting your expensive face products taken by security.
By now you are probably wondering what’s in my toiletry bag. Most people keep their toiletries with their check luggage. However, I typically try to avoid doing this as there is always the possibility of a flight delay or cancellation. If that’s ever the case, I like to be prepared. For these reasons, when I pack my toiletry bag, I always ask myself “what would I need if I was stuck in an airport?” For starters, hand sanitizer, wet wipes, Gravol and Advil are at the top of my list when travelling. I also always bring my Rose Quartz Facial Roller. Which improves blood circulation and reduces puffiness, perfect for flying. Depending on the duration of my flight, I like to bring a face sheet mask and under-eye masks. I find it’s a great way to feel refreshed and rejuvenated during a long flight. A toothbrush, toothpaste, makeup wipes, deodorant, lip balm, and Sage Peppermint Halo and Arrive Revived rollers are other essential items in my toiletry bag. As I said, you never know if you’ll be stranded at the airport. As for makeup, I always have a compact powder (Lisa Watier Mineral Compact Powder), a liquid concealer, and oil blotting papers. I highly recommend bringing a fully stocked toiletry bag in your carry-on, I can guarantee it will make your travel experience one hundred percent better.
Lucky for me, I have no problem falling asleep on planes. It doesn’t matter the time of day, nor the duration of my flight. I usually fall asleep. Like most people, I am dependant on my headphones when travelling, so I always have my AirPods in my carry-on. I download music, podcasts or movies to drowned out any noise around me. I also always pack my Aritzia Blanket Scarf. I have never been one to use a neck pillow, but the scarf can work as a pillow and be used as a blanket. If I have a longer flight, I also tend to pack a sleeping mask to block out any light. Flying is the perfect time to disconnect from the world, so why not get some sleep?
Alright, my carry-on bag is slowly filling up, but there are still a few essential travel items that I have yet to mention. It’s common knowledge that airports are ridiculously overpriced… I always bring a reusable water bottle and some snacks to avoid any unnecessary purchases. My personal favourite is my Swell Bottle, its insulated stainless steel that keeps water cold for hours. I bring this everywhere with me. As for snacks, I usually pack trail mix or granola bars. Next on the list is electronics, I always bring a portable charger as some older planes don’t have outlets. I also pack extra headphones, a cellphone charger, and an outlet adapter (depending on where I am travelling to). If I am away for work and I have to bring my laptop, I will put it in a laptop case to keep it from getting damaged. Finally, last but not least, I always pack an extra pair of underwear, socks, and a shirt. Once again, always be prepared for the possibility of a flight delay or cancellation.
Now you have all my must-have carry-on essentials! Remember you can never be too prepared for a flight. Pack anything and everything (that will fit!) to ensure you have the best flying experience!
Thank you for reading my first blog post, hope you enjoyed it!
Have a great weekend!
