Visiting Gili Trawangan

Eat, relax and enjoy everything that Gili T has to offer!

The Gili Islands are a group of 3 tiny islands – Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno, and Gili Air – in Indonesia. Gili Trawangan is the largest of the three and is known for it's sandy beaches and clear blue water.

There is no direct connection from Seminyak to Gili T. I recommend the Blue Water Express service. The boat to and from Gili T was quite traumatizing… it was a double-decker boat packed to the rim with zero air circulation. Between the heat and the rough waters let’s just say I spent the entire boat ride with my head in the toilet.

Where we stayed on Gili T

My Gili Paradise: At the most central location of Gili T was our beautiful, private bungalow. With a Mediterranean interior and all the amenities - it is still at the top of my list of places to stay.

Pros:

  • Short walk to the main strip

  • Escape from the crowded streets

  • Peaceful during the day

  • Breakfast was served to our bungalow

  • King-size bed

  • Clean and well kept

  • Friendly and helpful staff

Cons:

  • Had a difficult time finding it - needs better signage & directions

  • At night time you can hear everything on the island

Restaurants

Gili T's main strip offers a variety of different restaurants, bars, and cafes. If you looking for something more private and/or romantic I recommend walking down the west side of the island - where you can find more upscale and bouche options.

Chappies Bar: Finally, some bar food! This was the perfect taste of home! A cozy bar overlooking the ocean with delicious food and drinks. I recommend the American Nachos and a cold Bintang.

PinkCoco: This bar/restaurant is located on the West end of the island overlooking the ocean. This is the ideal spot to grab a drink and watch the sunset. If you're all about getting the perfect Instagram picture like me - then I highly recommend you visit here.

Kayu Cafe: Before leaving Gili T you must visit Kayu Cafe. This two-story, beach-front cafe is the ideal location to grab an iced coffee and catch up on your journal entries. With endless vegetarian, raw and vegan options there's no doubt that there is something for everyone.

Activities on Gili T

The Beach: I love a good beach day! Whether you want to rent a beach chair and relax or rent a stand-up paddleboard and explore this beach will not disappoint.

Snorkeling Tour: This full-day snorkeling trip visits the famous turtle point, human statues, bounty wreck, and meno garden. I highly recommend this tour - it is a perfect way to relax and see the amazing diversity of marine life. I also recommend booking through your accommodation to save money - our tour included lunch, snorkeling equipment and a tour guide for approximately 25$ CAD.

Bike Rental: Rent a bike for an hour or two and explore the island. Renting a bike through your accommodation is the easiest option. I highly recommend renting in the afternoon and biking to Sunset Beach, where you will catch the most beautiful Bali sunsets.

Happy travels!
